Copyright Considerations
Your images will be kept strictly confidential. Studio West does not allow any images to be printed without the artist's authorization. We will maintain an archived digital copy of your image for the sole purpose of production of your edition. At the completion of the edition the digital copy will be destroyed. At your written request we will destroy the digital image prior to completion of the edition. We will furnish, at a nominal fee, a low-resolution copy of the file suitable for publicity and promotion purposes, if requested.

Original Artwork
We will work from originals, transparencies, slides, negatives or previously digitized files. The quality of the digital image is the most crucial factor in determining the quality of the finished print. If we start with the original we can control the process from beginning to end. If you plan to send a transparency please have it done by a competent professional. If you plan on sending a digitized file please make sure it is in acceptable format.

Acceptable Digital File Format
An acceptable digital file will be in TIF format; RGB encoded (3 channels, 8 bits per channel) with LZW compression. JPG files are not acceptable because there is image degradation with JPG compression. The original file should contain at least 200 dots per inch and preferably 300 dpi at the final output size. Each dot represents one pixel; each pixel contains one byte each of red, green and blue. So the file size, in bytes, is 3 times the total dots per inch. Enlarging an image file with a graphic program such as Photoshop does very little to enhance output quality. The file should be initially created with the final out put size the determining factor of the file size.

The following table demonstrates acceptable file size:

Final Output Size 200dpi (minimum) 300dpi (preferred)
17"x22" 45 MB 101 MB
36"x46" 199 MB 447 MB
44"x60" 317 MB 713 MB
